Satinwood Travel Box, probably Jamaica. 18th Century.

Elegant travel box with silver articles and hardware including cast silver handles and hinges and lock catch. Silver nails secure the corners and hinges. A monogram or cipher of MD or possibly MJD or MDJ inset on a cast silver shield on the lid. The interior features original “bright cut” silver containers, one pierced. The same letter configured on the double-hinged box inside. All apparently unmarked, no makers marks or assay marks visible. Traces of a woven silver fabric lining on the interior of the box.
