Fine and Rare Japanese Kazari Kanagu Gold Gilt Copper Padlock

Rare Kazari Kanagu (飾金具) padlock, 19th century. Gold gilt copper. Utilizing senbori and keribori (蹴彫) techniques which use specially designed tools to imbue the metal with lines and patterns to create designs. Sukibori (鋤彫) techniques are used to selectively carve away areas to leave variation to the depth of the surface. Flat sections feature a pattern called nanako (魚々子), “fish roe”, made up of individually hammered circles in rows.
