On all sides the Qajar-themed decorative motifs depict a range of characters engaged in various activities including a man on a horse with a lance. Birds can be found hidden in flourishes and a beast and dragon are entwined within a cartouche in a struggle against a backdrop of paradisaic floral and botanical tracery and arabesques. The the lid encircled in a decorative border.

This casket is an example of objects made in Europe for markets abroad in Persia during the Qajar period, prior to the dynasty’s end in the first quarter of the 20th Century.
